“Spring Break From Business” Style Spotlight: Renae Bluitt
Renae Bluitt is the Creator and Editor-In-Chief of In Her Shoes. As the title indicates, she provides her audience with the opportunity to “step into the shoes of some of the most driven, talented, inspiring, and flyest female entrepreneurs on the planet.” There’s something about her natural beauty, bold streetstyle, and enthusiasm for the power of #Herstory that inspires us.
As over 1.5 million undergraduate students take a break from college this week, a growing number of entrepreneurs are taking a break from business. Take a walk in the Nicole Miller shoes of Renae as she discusses the benefits of taking a vacation during a recent getaway to St. Thomas.
As an entrepreneur based in the heart of New York City, what type of destinations do you break from business in and why?
Anytime I need a break, I escape to a destination that allows me to totally unwind. I love the energy of New York City but for vacations, I seek out the total opposite vibe: Mother Nature, blue skies, sand beneath my feet, peace, and tranquility.

Does your vacation fashion differ from the styles you turn to on a regular basis?
For the most part, my fashion philosophy is “comfort over style.” I do not believe one has to be compromised for the other. My casual quotient turns up a notch or two when I am on vacation. A loose fitting frock in vivid colors with a cute, comfy sandal is one of my favorite getaway looks.

How do you achieve work / life balance when abroad? Do you completely unplug and why?
Unless something urgent comes up, I try my very best to completely unplug on vacation. I work in a client service industry (PR), so recharging my battery benefits everyone involved. A well-deserved getaway allows me to return to work creatively and strategically inspired so it’s a win / win for us both. It took me years to fully understand the power of unplugging but now that I do, there’s no turning back.
Social media is the exception to every rule ;-)
You believe in the power of #Herstory… What was the newest learning experience added to your story from your time in St. Thomas today?
On our final day in St. Thomas, a local homeowner by the name of Susan Hunter heard our laughter as we were taking photos near her home. She invited us onto her private property to capture some images in Garden of the Silver Palm. The visit to her garden evolved into a tour of her entire property, which was quite magical. During the tour, she shared #Herstory of being a St. Thomas resident for over 17 years and spending most of that time renovating her home. She’s also a writer for local media. This encounter was an inspirational experience that my colleagues and I never forget. Correction… we will never forget her, her dog “Apple” and her cat “Percy Kills Mousy”.
Thank You Garden of the Silver Palm.
This entire experience was captured without the necessity of a passport in the comfort of The U.S. Virgin Islands. Where are your favorite destinations to break from business?
